HERNE BAY
OVERVIEW
Over many years Herne Bay pier has deteriorated to such an extent that only a section of the end is still standing. The remaining pier end and its tower are regarded as a local landmark and therefore the client needed to prevent deterioration. Topbond were commissioned to carry out various repairs to support the pier from further deterioration.
THE CHALLENGE
Due to the remote offshore location the works team needed to be transferred 3/4 mile from shore to the remote jetty site. We carried out all repairs using our own marine plant which involved taking out all materials to the pier end to allow the works to take place. Careful monitoring of the weather took place to ensure that these works were carried out in a safe manner.
THE SOLUTION
The repairs were carried out to the client’s specification enabling the structure to continue to function as a famous landmark. The client was satisfied with the result as well as the organisation and preparation carried out prior to the works.
