Timber decking, retaining wall, benches and posts

thumb_picture1Built in the early 19th Century for strategic defence against invasion in the Napoleonic Wars, the Royal Military Canal is a 45 km waterway which runs across Romney Marsh from Folkestone to Hastings.

Now used for leisure rather than military purposes, the canal has recently undergone extensive refurbishment and woodworking specialists Howard Joinery were commissioned to renovate a stretch of canal near Hythe. Their work included the construction of timber decking, a retaining wall and timber benches and posts.

The timber elements, made from green oak and balau, both obtained from renewable sources, were made at their  joinery works in Dover, Kent and fitted on site by Howard Joinery’s own skilled workmen.
