ISLE OF GRAIN

OVERVIEW

P1020012.JPG

THE CHALLENGE

Accessing the repairs posed a difficulty as the location is exposed to harsh weather sitting close to the Thames estuary with high winds a frequent occurrence. In addition to this a strict Inspection procedure in place with our client and National Grid meant each completed repair had been through a total of five inspections before it was approved.

Works consisted of concrete repairs to three LNG storage tanks on the National Grid, Isle of Grain facility. The three tanks were over 100m diameter and 40m high with repairs located on the tank walls and roofs.

THE SOLUTION

Works were phased to benefit prevailing winds and weather conditions with teams working on lower repairs on windier days and reaching the highest repairs during calmer conditions. A combination of MEWP and roped access techniques were employed to maximise access potential and despite the works being completed heading into and during winter the scheme was completed on programme.
